What is Ketogenic diet?
The ketogenic diet is a very low-carb, high-fat diet that shares many similarities with the Mediterranean diet. It involves drastically reducing carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat. This reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis.
Ketosis is a regular pattern which the body triggers to help us sustain when there is a low intake of food. We generate ketones during this condition, which are formed by the breakdown of liver fats. When this happens, your body becomes incredibly efficient at burning fat for energy. It also turns fat into ketones in the liver, which can supply power for the brain.
A well-managed keto diet's
end aim is to push the body into the physiological condition. We do this not by
calorie deprivation but by carbohydrate deprivation.

Treating Epilepsy was the
origin of Ketogenic Diet
Our path through
ketogenic diet work ends with Dr. Russell Wilder in 1924. Dr. Wilder developed
a carbohydrate-restricted diet for the management of epilepsy in children at
the renowned Mayo Clinic, and the studies at the time showed it was extremely
successful.

Not until far later, in 1998, was released the first high-quality research on epilepsy and the ketogenic diet. Researchers enrolled 150 children in this sample, and almost half of them reported more than two seizures a week, despite having at least two seizure-reducing medicines. For a one-year study, the children were offered a ketogenic diet. Around 34 percent of the babies, or marginally more than .One-third had over 90 percent reduction in seizures after three months.
Types of ketogenic diet

detailed research only on regular and high-protein ketogenic diets. Cyclic or
tailored ketogenic diets are more sophisticated approaches that are utilized
mainly for athletes or bodybuilders.
